Best foldable phones in 2026: flip designs compared
GSMArena measured 14 hours 14 minutes of active use on the Galaxy Z Flip8 and says only Motorola's razr flagships beat it, with 16 hours 32 minutes on the razr ultra. I'd buy the Flip8 for updates, and look at the razr+ if you live on the cover screen.

Best for most people
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8
GSMArena measured a 14 h 14 min active-use score and called the hinge refined and the crease nearly invisible. The catch is thermal throttling, which GSMArena says the compact body makes hard to avoid, and a camera it calls decent rather than impressive.

Motorola razr+ (2026)
Motorola's page shows a 4.0-inch external display that runs full apps. I found no GSMArena lab review of this model, so its battery and camera are unmeasured here.

Motorola razr ultra (2026)
Motorola pairs a 7.0-inch inner screen with a silicon-carbon battery and 68 W charging. GSMArena measured a 16 h 32 min active-use score on it, ahead of the Flip8. The update promise is the weak spot.

Motorola Razr (2026)
Titanium-reinforced hinge and IP48 on Motorola's page, but a mid-range chip and the same dust caveat as the rest.

This list is flips only. Four phones, all with a 6.9 or 7.0-inch screen that folds in half, and one real question: how much do you care about the outside of the phone when it's shut?
I haven't used any of them. The lab data is GSMArena's reviews of three of the four, read on Nov 1, 2026, the specs are Motorola's own pages, and the picks are my opinion.
Galaxy Z Flip8: the one I'd buy
GSMArena lab-tested three of these four. Its Flip8 review measured an Active Use Score of 14:14 hours on a 4,300 mAh battery and says only Motorola's razr flagships beat it. Its Razr 70 Ultra review (the razr ultra 2026) measured 16:32 hours, so the ultra does. With its 25 W charger the phone reached 56% in 30 minutes and 100% at 79 minutes. That's fine, not quick.
The Flip8 is $1,199.99 (checked November 1, 2026) and weighs 180 g. Samsung's update promise is 7 years years, longer than anything else here.
Two flaws, both from GSMArena. The camera hardware is largely unchanged and the result is decent, not impressive. And the chip throttles heavily, because a thin clamshell can't shed heat. IP48 means water protection but no real dust protection, and GSMArena tells owners to keep fine sand away from it. My durability explainer goes into that.
Razr+ 2026: the cover screen pick
Motorola's page describes a 4.0-inch external display that runs full apps, so you can answer messages without opening the phone. It has a 4,500 mAh mAh battery and 45 W charging. It weighs 189 g against 180 g for the Flip8.
The razr+ costs $1,099.99 against $1,199.99 for the Flip8. That gap is the argument. I'd take the Motorola if you'd rather not open the phone for most tasks, and accept that I found no GSMArena battery test for it. The full write-up is my razr+ 2026 review.
Razr ultra 2026: for people who hate waiting on a charger
Motorola claims a 5,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery, 68 W wired charging and a 4.0-inch external display covered in Gorilla Glass-Ceramic. Motorola's footnote says median users get up to 12 hours of battery in under 8 minutes of charging, a company test I can't check. GSMArena's own Razr 70 Ultra review measured a 16:32 hour Active Use Score. It's $1,499.99.
The catch is software. The tracked update promise is 3 years years against 7 years on the Flip8. At that price I'd want more. Compare them head to head in Flip8 vs razr ultra.
Razr 2026: the plain one
A 4,800 mAh mAh battery, 30 W charging, a titanium-reinforced hinge and IP48, all from Motorola's page. It costs $799.99 and runs a MediaTek Dimensity 7450X. GSMArena's Razr 70 review (this model) measured 13:00 hours of active use, a little under the Flip8's 14:14, and 63% in 30 minutes. Buy it only if you want a flip and nothing else about the phone matters. For daily use the Flip8 has the better chip and the longer update promise.
If you're still deciding on phone type, the phone catalog lists every phone I track.
