Google Pixel 10a review: seven years of updates, and what it drops from the Pixel 11
GSMArena measured 15 h 13 min of active use on the Pixel 10a, with the same 5,100 mAh battery as the Pixel 9a. The chip and cameras are unchanged from last year.

The Pixel 10a is last year's Pixel 9a with a better battery result and faster charging. GSMArena says exactly that: same phone, considerably more expensive. I think that's fair, and my 7.4 comes from published reviews, not from using it.
The price confusion
The Pixel 10a launched at $499 for the 128GB model and $599 for 256GB (Thurrott's review). On October 2, 2026, 9to5Google reported Google had raised the 128GB price by $100 to $599, with 256GB at $699. Google's store, which I read on November 1, 2026, shows $599 (November 1, 2026) with a $50 saving beside it that the page says ends 11/08. I'd plan around the full price and treat the saving as a short-term bonus.
What changed from the 9a
Not much. The chip is still the Google Tensor G4 with 8 GB of RAM, the cameras are the same hardware (Thurrott), and the screen is the same 6.3-inch panel. The 120 Hz OLED gets a little brighter on paper: GSMArena says Google advertises 3,000 nits peak, up from 2,700, and it measured almost 2,900.
The surprise is battery. The cell is still 5,100 mAh, yet GSMArena's active-use score reached 15 h 13 min, well ahead of the 9a. It guesses a more efficient display, and says the phone beat the 9a in every battery test. Charging moved to 30 W wired and 10 W wireless. In GSMArena's test, Google's 67W charger gave 52% in 30 minutes and a full charge in 89 minutes.
What it drops from the Pixel 11
The Pixel 11 has a Google Tensor G6 and 12 GB of RAM. It costs $899 at Google, though the store page shows a promo. Against the 10a's $599, you're paying for a newer chip, a telephoto and more memory.
Thurrott lists what the 10a skips from the regular Pixel 10: a telephoto lens, Pixelsnap and the extra RAM that on-device AI features like Magic Cue need. 9to5Google adds weaker speakers and haptics than the Pixel 10. Both say Tensor G4 is fine for most people.
The cameras and the catch
9to5Google's March review calls it the best camera on a sub-$500 phone, back when it cost $499, but wasn't impressed past 2x zoom or in darker scenes. Thurrott says the hardware is basically the same as the 9a, with new software tricks like Camera Coach. GSMArena sums up the camera as great all-round.
My complaint is the bezels. GSMArena lists thick bezels and a plastic back as cons, and a launch price it thinks is too high. In Europe, it noted the 9a was €200 cheaper. That gap is the whole argument.
Updates
Thurrott quotes Google's promise of seven years of new features and security updates. Eight gigabytes of RAM is a worry over that span, Thurrott points out. If longevity is your priority, read how many years of updates a phone should get.
Who should buy it
Buy it on sale if you want a compact Android phone you can keep for years. Skip it at full price if you're a Pixel 9a owner. Comparing against Apple? See iPhone 17e against Pixel 10a. For older relatives, I've listed it in phones for seniors. Specs are on the Pixel 10a page.
